Online poker vs Live poker

September 14th, 2015 Comments off

With the prominence of online poker in the modern day, there’s an ongoing debate over which is better to play. Both have their pros and cons, but many of us are left wondering if it’s really a big deal or not.

The first issue to look at, as you might have guessed, is the earning power of each game. With online poker, it can take a fairly long time to get up to a comfortably profitable level, but once you make it there the online arena can prove quite rewarding. If you’re good enough, you could be raking in 50% ROI at mid-high stakes on most online programs. With live poker, it’s much harder to put enough volume in to get a measurable return, and although we hate to hear it the house always wins.

Another, slightly low-key issue of live poker, is that it’s much harder to concentrate on playing your best game. With online poker, you’ll be playing from the peace and comfort of your own home, and if anyone decides to tell you how you misplayed your last hand over the chat, you can silence them with the click of a button. At a live game, you’ll not only have to hear these idiots, but it’s common courtesy to actually pay attention to them. This gives online poker a pretty significant edge if you really want to lose yourself in the game.
